Welcome

The Henden Stud was established in 1979 by Jane and Ron Scott following a visit to the Royal Show where they were enthralled by examples of the breed being exhibited by the Caspian Stud UK.

They immediately purchased nine Caspians, including the stallion Hopstone Shoja, considered by many to have been a perfect example of the breed. By selective purchasing and careful breeding, the stud grew in numbers to around 100 in the 1980s, including those at livery, and there are very few of the older Caspians that have not spent some time at the Stud.

The Henden Stud has seen most of the foundation or originally imported stallions stand including Rostam and Karoun and they purchased three of the last group of Caspians to be imported to the UK.

When Jane retired from farming in the early nineties, The Stud moved with the family to a smaller non-commercial farm in Wiltshire and Caspian numbers decreased to between 50 and 75 at any one time. In 1995, their daughter Fleur established her own Stud with the prefix Lanhill and in 2005 she assumed responsibility for both studs.

The Studs have exported Caspians around the world and entered into a contract with the American responsible for starting the considerable numbers imported there.

The Studs stand 11 stallions and breed around 12 foals a year. Their policy has been to spread responsible ownership of the breed at prices which fulfill that policy.
